Darkness Comes Before The Light

How often is it that we feel low and at jumping off place in our life and feel that all of the life is being sucked out of us for some reason or another. This is how God works, He places His children at the lowest point in their life to awaken them. Then throughout life, He slowly removes all of their earthly desires and needs and replaces the darkness we feel with the illuminating light of His Son. This is what is known as being saved. You see we aren’t saved until we have finished our mission, endured life’s storms, gone through many trials and tribulations and finally finished the course. This can be seen in what Paul said in 2Ti 4:7-8 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing”. .

If we are in a place of contentment with life and with God, then we are nothing more than a religious person and not a true child of God. This is what the word is teaching us in Mt 7:22 “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?” You see a religious person thinks they can just call on God any time that they get into trouble and expect Him to hear them. They will read their bible and say their little prayers and then they are content and assured of their position with God.

A true child of God is never content with their life as it is, always striving to get to their God and to know more of Him. Going to Him as one who is poor in spirit and ashamed of their current condition, recognizing their sinfulness and the darkness that surrounds them. They have a hope that they are God’s child and they are seeking for that daily commune and hourly presence of Him in a conscious need of His presence. A daily hungering and thirsting for that morsel of bread and the pouring out of His saving grace which quenches a thirst of within. And if ever placed in a condition of darkness and separated from Him, quickly recognizes it and has no desire to continue in that condition, therefore they cry out to Him for help.

Are you certain of your salvation and nothing can take that feeling of security from you? Then contentment has set into your life and don’t be surprise to hear those words in Lk 13:23-25 “Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, 24. Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. 25. When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are”

Or do you have a hope that you are His and wonder often why God would choose a sinner as me. Just remember what Christ said in Mt 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14. Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

May God have mercy on us poor sinners is my prayer.
