The Husband and the Bride

Many of my friends who take time to read this post will probably think that I was pointing fingers at others and that I must think that I feel I’m a cut above them as a christian. This is far from the truth and the finger that I point was at myself in the mirror. It is a desire of mine to know more about my God and I share my posts that others might learn with me.

“The Lord very frequently addresses us in the character of a husband…. As He performs all the offices of a true and faithful husband, so he requires love and chastity from us…. As the purer and chaster the husband is, the more grievously he is offended when he sees his wife inclining to a rival; so the Lord, who has betrothed us to Himself, declares that He burns with the hottest jealousy whenever, neglecting the purity of His holy marriage, we defile ourselves with abominable lusts.” – John Calvin, quoted in Packer, Knowing God.

You know the more I think about John Calvin’s quote above, the more I personally am ashamed for the way I have and am currently treating Him. You see every child of God is His bride and He knows every thought and every action His bride takes. You see there are no secrets hid from Him.

The point that really stands out to me here is how jealous my God really is in my actions, words, thoughts etc. I am so thankful that He is slow to wrath and has much patience with me as He places me into the fire pit of purification to prepare me to be in His presence.

We must remember that He hates a rebellious disobedient heart. You know there is a line the child of God can cross that’s called “the sin unto death” which can be found in 1 Jn 5:16-17 “If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. 17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death (kjv).

You might ask, what is the sin unto death. We don’t know, only God knows this. He alone can place it in ones heart to pray for a brother or sister in Christ and He also can take it away from ones heart to pray as can be seen in the above verses.

One told me recently during a discussion on God’s use of the whip on His children that “God is a loving God and He wouldn’t do what you’re saying”. I agree with this, He is a loving God, but He is also a jealous God and He will chasten His bride.

I close with this thought, may all that name the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour have a great awareness of our True Loves presence at all times and cry out to Him for help in our service and our daily walk is my prayer, Amen
